White Picket Fence

A Multiracial Democracy

Episode Summary

This past summer, when #IAmASuburbanMom started trending across social media, its success hit especially close to home for our host, Julie. The hashtag, which arose in response to suburban women being used as reasons for police violence against protestors, was the result of years of on the ground organizing in Minnesota. But not just any organizing: multiracial organizing, which centers communities of color, while engaging a wide array of community members. It's a kind of organizing that requires "nice white ladies" to do our own work, and own our stake in building a more equitable country.
